Kristen Cooney
SAN Fellow

Kristen Cooney is PDE’s Schuylkill Action Network (SAN) Fellow. In this role, she assists with programs related to the SAN, and will be working on communications, events, and reports to support clean water and healthy ecosystems.
Kristen joined the staff in September of 2022. Prior to joining PDE, Kristen attended Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania where she obtained her B.A. in Art and Art History and Environmental Studies with a minor in Museum Studies. In her time at Ursinus she also completed an honors thesis exploring the potential of street trees to combat food insecurity in New York City using GIS. Aside from school, Kristen often volunteers as a PA Master Naturalist. Some of her favorite projects she’s worked on include native bird and bald eagle nest monitoring at Bryn Coed Preserve and interpretive flora and fauna illustrations for the Whitaker Environmental Research Station.
Kristen enjoys birding, travel, wildlife photography, hiking, and kayaking. She is also passionate about increasing interest in native wildlife in her local communities in southeastern Pennsylvania often leading nature and bird walks there.
