Source Water Protection Manager

BACKGROUND

Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (PDE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and improving the health of the Delaware Estuary, which supplies clean drinking water for millions of people and provides valuable resources for businesses, governments, and communities including those that are overburdened or economically distressed. PDE pursues clean waters, healthy habitats, and strong communities by:

· Leading science-based efforts to prevent pollution, protect wetlands, and restore living resources;

· Partnering with government agencies, nonprofits, corporations, and the public to restore the vital waters that nourish our communities; and

· Fostering care and support for the health of the entire estuary through festivals, workshops, river cleanups and other special events.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Source Water Protection Manager oversees the day-to-day administrative and programmatic activities of two regional source water protection networks: the Schuylkill Action Network (SAN) and the Delaware River Improvement Partnership (DRIP). The Manager oversees the design, development, and implementation of projects and initiatives related to these source water protection networks.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS

Manage day-to-day operations of the SAN program

· Lead SAN projects and activities in coordination with other PDE staff and external partner organizations

· Coordinate events, campaigns, meetings, and an annual conference on behalf of SAN

· Manage, coordinate, and facilitate the issue-based SAN workgroups and committees

· Manage program timelines and budgets, track deliverables, and monitor and analyze key metrics

· Oversee coordination of the SAN website, social media platforms, and listserv outreach

· Cultivate project opportunities with local partners based on SAN priorities

· Identify opportunities to position SAN within the broader regional context

Foster growth of DRIP, a new regional watershed partnership in the Lower Delaware and Lehigh Valley

· Create programs and facilitate meetings of Farm Forward, a workgroup focused on promoting agricultural restoration and fostering regional collaboration

· Cultivate new partnerships for collaboration on source water protection issues such stormwater management, and promoting stewardship and recreational opportunities

· Manage program timelines and budgets, track deliverables, and monitor and analyze key metrics

· Develop new project opportunities with local partners based on DRIP priorities

· Identify opportunities to position DRIP within the broader regional context

Organizational Activities

· Write grant proposals to help secure funding related to work in the Delaware watershed

· Identify business opportunities to improve PDE engagement

· Assist with proposal development, grant management, and reporting related to the implementation of the Delaware Estuary Program’s Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan

· Serve as an ambassador for PDE and the Delaware Estuary Program

· Perform other tasks as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s degree from a college/university in environmental science, environmental policy/planning, or a related field, plus 3 years of work experience; or at least 6 years of work experience in a related field such as watershed science and management, or communications and outreach.

· Demonstrated understanding of natural resources and water resource management.

· Excellent project management and facilitation skills

· Strong organizational and coordination skills, multi-tasking ability, and attention to detail

· Demonstrated ability to work with diverse public and private constituencies

· Experience leading and working in a team environment with staff and partners

· Demonstrated experience organizing meetings, events, and conferences

· Demonstrated ability of problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making.

· Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Proficient in MS Office and video meeting platforms

· Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Time spent in this position is split between the PDE office (Wilmington, DE), off-site meeting locations, and remote work from home. Off-site meeting sites may range from Philadelphia to Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania. Work hours may shift depending on task needs and staff or partner availability. Occasionally, there will be a need to work at night or on a weekend day.

SALARY AND COMPENSATION

Full-time, non-exempt position with a starting annual salary of $65,000. PDE offers a competitive benefits plan for full-time employees, which includes health/dental/vision, paid leave (including vacation, sick time, and paid holidays), matching contributions to a Simple IRA, and supplemental employee wellness benefits.
