Matt Gentry

Assistant Science Manager

Matt Gentry is the Assistant Science Manager at PDE. His focus at PDE is on the restoration of native bivalve shellfish in the Estuary and the assessment of the ecosystem services they confer. Matt manages field and lab efforts for various shellfish projects, primarily focusing on freshwater mussels. Matt started at PDE as an intern in 2018 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University in 2017. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University, with an anticipated graduation date of June 2024. His thesis research is focused on the physiological ecology of native freshwater mussels and how they respond to changes in environmental conditions. Matt grew up in Connecticut and has been living in Philadelphia since 2012. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, cycling, woodworking, and wilderness backpacking. He is working on climbing all the high peaks in the Northeastern U.S.
