Matt Gentry
Shellfish Coordinator

Matt Gentry is PDE’s Shellfish Coordinator. His focus at PDE is on the restoration of native bivalve shellfish in the Estuary and the assessment of the ecosystem services they confer. Matt coordinates field and lab efforts for various shellfish projects, with a primary focus on freshwater mussels. Matt started at PDE as an intern in 2018 after receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University in 2017. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University, where his thesis research is focused on the physiological ecology of native freshwater mussels. Matt grew up in Connecticut and has been living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania since 2012. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, cycling, woodworking, and wilderness backpacking, and is currently working on climbing all 115 mountains taller than 4,000’ in the northeastern United States.
